Tesla’s Australian Sales Plunge Over 70% in February Amid Growing Competition

March 12, 2025 — Electric vehicle giant Tesla is facing a sharp downturn in the Australian market, with sales plummeting by more than 70% in February 2025 compared to the same month last year, according to newly released automotive industry data.

This significant drop follows a 33% year-on-year decline in January, marking Tesla’s lowest monthly sales in Australia in two years.

Industry analysts point to intensifying competition from rival EV brands such as BYD and MG as a major factor behind the slump. Experts also suggest the decline may reflect a broader normalization in electric vehicle demand after years of rapid growth.

The trend isn’t isolated to Australia. Reports indicate Tesla is seeing similar slowdowns in other key markets, including Germany, where sales have tumbled by as much as 75% in recent months.

As the global EV market evolves, all eyes are on how Tesla plans to respond to these mounting challenges.
