German police have halted a murder enquiry over a body found in the woods after a five-hour investigation revealed it was a sex doll.
The female ‘body’ was found by a dog walker on a demolition site in the city of Rostock, north-eastern Germany, around 8pm on Saturday.
A large contingent of police including homicide and forensic officers as well as pathologists were dispatched to the scene, with drones and a specialist 3D scanner deployed to investigate.
The area was cordoned off and officers photographed the evidence before taking measurements of the ‘remains’ with a ruler.
Five hours into the search, one of the investigators touched the ‘corpse’ for the first time and quickly realised that it wasn’t human – it was actually made of synthetic material.
The female sex doll, known for its lifelike qualities, appears to have been charred before it was stuffed into a blue Ikea plastic bag.
Investigators believe parts of the doll’s body were burned and disposed of in a public place on purpose, according to German outlet Nordkurier.
A funeral director hired to transport the body to a morgue was told their services are no longer needed as police took the sex doll with them to dispose of it.

The officers at the scene reportedly agreed that they never had a case as strange as this one in their careers.
But they are not the only ones who got tricked into believing a sex doll was an actual human corpse.
In August 2022, horrified beachgoers in Thailand came across a ‘naked body’ on Bang Saen beach in the province of Chonburi east of Bangkok.
It looked like a naked woman was lying dead on the shore with only a t-shirt over her head.
Paramedics and police rushed to the scene after receiving panicked calls, expecting to be met with a dead body.
Instead they came across the sex doll, allegedly a Japanese model ‘AV Idol’, which is estimated to cost £469.
Photos show the doll washed up on the beach with a naked leg clearly visible. Police believed it was originally left in a river and floated down into the sea.
Earlier the same year, police officers in the US state of Georgia responded to a call of a female body found along a hiking trail in the Hitchiti National Forest – only to find a discarded life-sized sex doll.

Jones County Deputy Matthew Dennis found the model number and collected the doll as evidence, with the Sheriff’s Office jokingly dubbing the ‘victim’ Selena.
The department shared at the time that Selena was ‘a little under the weather’ but ‘has been having a nice day and is expected to make a full recovery’.
